For businesses and content creators, this is a great opportunity to connect with your audience. Create a content schedule for the entire year and post seasonal content on Pinterest. This can result in higher engagement from your audience and contribute to your growth on Pinterest.

In this article I will explain what seasonal content on Pinterest is, how it differs from evergreen content, what the benefits are, what to do when you don’t have seasonal content and where to find popular trends.

How to create seasonal content on Pinterest

What is seasonal content on Pinterest?

When you create content that is strategically timed to certain special moments and periods of the year that drive higher-than-usual search for a short period, that is seasonal content.

Including seasonal content in your strategy helps you become visible at the right time, responding to periods of high demand.

Seasonal content performs best when published early so it has time to gain traction.

It helps increase visibility and engagement, as Pinners actively look for relevant content. When you’ve properly optimized your content with keywords, seasonal Pins can drive consistent traffic year after year.

The Importance of Seasonal Content for Brands

Creating content for different seasons and special moments has several advantages for businesses and content creators:

  • Help your audience at the right time while they are actively looking for ideas.
  • You increase your visibility in search results and the Pinterest Feed.
  • Responding to trends and current events increases your brand awareness.
  • It increases your engagement, traffic and conversions.

It probably takes some time to create seasonal content on Pinterest, but using a content calendar, Pinterest’s planning tool or Tailwind, and Pin templates can save you a lot of time and help you capitalize on seasonal trends.

Start early

People on Pinterest tend to start planning early, so make sure to publish your content a few months before the planned date. This gives Pinterest time to index and categorize your content, which will help you reach a wider audience.

Example: Post your summer content in late winter/early spring so it is indexed and ready to be found when people are planning their summer trips and activities.

Content tip: Repurpose old content on Pinterest. Create new Pins for old blogs or theme pages. Save your Pins to seasonal boards.

What is evergreen content on Pinterest

Now you might be wondering what the difference is between seasonal content and evergreen content. Evergreen content is timeless and stays relevant all year round and It builds long-term visibility and consistent traffic.

It’s a similar idea to articles on a blog. When you write about a topic that is not time-bound or referencing current events, then the result is timeless, evergreen content. Think of:

  • An article with marketing strategies or blog tips
  • Easy recipes that you can make every day
  • Styling tips for furniture in a living room
  • Instruction or checklist for a DIY project

Seasonal content, on the other hand, creates peaks in a certain period and then drops off. During these peaks, it often delivers high engagement in a short period of time. See below for examples of my peak moments on Pinterest.

When you combine evergreen content with seasonal content in your strategy, you can get the best of both worlds: evergreen content that remains relevant, valuable and discoverable all year round, and seasonal content that can create seasonal peaks at different times of the year.

Creating Seasonal Content with Pinterest Trends

I regularly visit Pinterest Trends to see what content is trending and when people are searching for certain keywords. This tool is a must for marketers to bookmark: trends.pinterest.com!

When creating content for the holidays or special moments such as Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter or Halloween, you can select the trend type “Seasonal Trends”. See the image below.

Pinterest Trends

Pinterest shows trends and keywords that have grown significantly over the past 30 days compared to the selected end date and that recur during the same time period each year.

The trending keywords can help you determine what content to create. By adding these keywords, you can reach people who use these keywords to find seasonal ideas and products.

This will help you capitalize on seasonal trends and generate traffic to your website!

What if you don’t have seasonal products or content?

Seasonal content might be obvious for interior bloggers, food bloggers and travel bloggers. But what if your content isn’t naturally seasonal? Is there a way to create content that fits a certain season or period?

Absolutely! With a little creativity and your audience in mind, it is possible. Think about how you can incorporate your products or services into seasonal content.

For example, you can incorporate seasonal images and texts into your Pins.

I do not sell physical products such as furniture and home accessories, but I can inspire my target group (marketers and owners of home brands or home stores) with relevant articles.

For example, I previously wrote a few articles with inspiration and strategies on how they can help their audience during their holiday shopping journey.

Think about how you can help or inspire your audience during a special moment.

Case Study: Holiday product photography with furniture in a different setting

While thinking about how to make my client’s furniture store and furniture stand out on Pinterest during the holidays, I came up with a simple way to incorporate a seasonal strategy into her Pinterest marketing.

For the holidays, Pinterest users are looking for inspiration for their dining room. Because how do you set your table for a Christmas dinner or decorate your dining or living room with Christmas decorations?

Christmas decorations

By adding Christmas or festive decorations in her showroom and festively decorating a dining table with chairs, the owner of the store was able to take photos and videos. She now has unique and relevant seasonal content to save on Pinterest and we highlight her furniture in a different setting, which also helps customers envision her furniture in their own homes.

What You Need for Peak Pinterest Moments

Capitalizing on seasonal trends can lead to big peaks in your engagement and clicks on Pinterest. These peak moments can occur when you:

  • Have visually appealing images
  • Regularly post new Pins
  • Use specific keywords
  • Are not impatient

In the screenshots below you can see results from different Pins with the same image that were saved at different times. By myself and other Pinners.

My Valentine’s Day peak moments on Pinterest

I used Pinterest Trends to find popular search terms for Valentine’s Day and created several Pins using Canva. I saved these Pins on my Pinterest account a few weeks in advance.

Before I knew it, these Pins went “viral” and resulted in an increase in impressions, Pin clicks, saves, and outbound clicks. The same thing happened the following year, again creating peak moments.
